In 2020 an abstract I submitted on my teaching research was awarded a gold scholarship to attend the 6th World Conference on Media and Mass Communication to present the full paper. Sadly due to COVID, I was not able to go and the funding has been rolled over into 2021.
Presentations and reviews for teaching scholarship
Because my scholarship on teaching is interdisciplinary, in that it brings together journalism, education, language and literacy, decolonial theory as well as history (because the texts I use are from the Early South African Black Press), I have given presentations at various conferences and symposiums. These include:
2019 UCT History Access (Theme: Vernacular Pasts)
2019 Wits Institute of Social and Economic Research (Theme: African Digital Humanities)
2019/2020 CPUT Rital conference
I also presented the work at the 2020 Higher Education Learning and Teaching Association of Southern Africa (HELTASA) and the 2019 Litasa Conference.
Because of the interdisciplinary work I am engaged in when it comes to higher education and language, I have been approached to review manuscripts for an international conference and publications including:
the Integrity Journal of Education and Training
the Journal of Education, Society and Behavioral Science
the National Communication Association
Certificate of excellence for reviewing an education paper in this journal
